Maleficent is Magnificent! Xx

As so often in fairy tales Maleficent works on deep
psychological levels, telling the story of women's
experience of love on all levels.
The film shows how strong the bond between women
can be, even in the face of difficult emotions.
This is an excellent role for the beautiful and strong
Angelina Jolie, using her perfect English Accent
which we also heard in the Tourist.

As Maleficent she rules the fairy lands
as a Boadicea-like Queen.
An Allegory actually for preserving
the natural world against the world of man.

Until she is meanly thwarted by a past love
for selfish, ambitious and worldly gain.

We found ourselves thinking how women indeed
everyday, have to show independent spirit
as Maleficent does, especially when stripped of strength and trust
by some men's selfish, evil, trophy hunting, behaviour.

This becomes most poignant when the King thinks
he has total power over her and
revels in his words:

'How does it feel to be a wingless creature
in a world where you don't belong …'

We love the twist of true love's first kiss,
which will perhaps educate girls from waiting for men
to change their lives for the better in the traditional sense,
when so often the opposite is true if it is the wrong man,
with the wrong values.

Here may we ponder on the Dalai Lama's words:

'The planet does not need more successful
people.  The planet needs more peacemakers, healers
storytellers and lovers of all kinds.'

Elle Fanning is wonderful as Aurora
the naive but knowing, and completely loveable Princess.

Sam Riley (above) as Diaval Maleficent's Familiar
who most often takes the shape of a Crow.

The hilarious, incompetent, shape shifting Fairy Godmother's are played by
Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville.

So let's recap - How do you change a woman from this ...
to this…?
Answer:  Completely Mess Up! Xx lol

But Do not Worry ...

she will still turn up at all your family occasions looking fabulous
and cheery, and even bring gifts! Xx
