Christian Dior SS13: Raf Simons' Freedom & Irridescence and Pat McGrath's 'Techno Butterflies'! Xx

This is the first Pret a Porter collection from
the Christian Dior's Brand New
Creative Director Raf Simons,
and as the Show Notes say
he 'explores the themes of liberation
both historical to the house and personal to himself.'

In 1947 Christian Dior established his house

with the New Look, and as Raf Simons explains:
'He embraced the feminine, the complex
and the emotional; an idea of freedom from what
had gone before.  There was an idea of restriction
and then psychological freeing up;
the foundation of the house is a
reaction to restrictions. I wanted to do that too"

Movement, Lightness, transparency

and playfulness are key.
The venue was a clean white box space with
 gauze curtains in rainbow shades.

The focus was on the structured
silhouette of the 'Bar' jacket
and the hyper-feminine take on tailoring.
The 'Ligne A' and 'Ligne H 'jackets in the collection,
had pleats and godets to give freedom,
and embroidery and appliqué adding decoration.
We loved Simons' transformation of
the jacket into a mini dress,
the mini silhouette, the sixties looks and crushed ball gowns
in fabrics looking like butterfly wings worn with shorts.

The colours and mixture of textures was breathtaking -
violet, gold, emerald, lime, pink, lilac, scarlet, fire orange,
yellow and ultramarine. Shades as you see in exotic nature,
when it looks super real.

'I am a fan of minimalism" says Raf Simons
"It is a conceptual approach I like,
but it is not the only one I like.
Neither is it only one type of
woman that I want to appeal to."

Hair was by Guido Palau
All the girls had a
completely perfect
sleek low ponytail
with products by Redken

Make Up Christian Dior created by Tyen
and realised for the show by Pat McGrath

I really don't think I've seen
anything more beautiful or more inspiring
in catwalk make up in a long while
loving Pat McGrath's 'Techno Butterflies'

Going perfectly with Raf Simons idea of freedom, length, cut,
colour and iridescence of the fabrics.

The eyes are painted in deeply pigmented eyeshadow
with swarovski crystals precisely
applied with tweezers
in bright shades
in a contrasting colour as eyeliner
and spreading out as wings.

Pat used cleaned up the edges with a cotton but soaked in
make-up remover ...
...then used a thin line of black eyeliner and black mascara.

Everything else about the makeup
was completely clean and minimal.

The skin completely translucent and glowing
sans blush and lips neutral.
