Dolce & Gabbana AW12 Milan - Make up by Pat McGrath

(Milan, Italy – February 2012)– At the Dolce and Gabbana
Autumn/Winter 2012 Ready to Wear show in Milan,
Dolce and Gabbana presented a collection
that evoked the opulence of Sicilian Baroque.

Backstage, the Designers’ inspiration, with a sumptuous black and gold
colour palette and intricate brocade as its focal point
was brought to life by Pat McGrath using Dolce and Gabbana Make Up.
The Brand Creative Advisor translated the Designers’
fashion creativity and vision into a dedicated makeup look
with a combination of tonal nudes alongside rich gold accents.

“This season we were inspired by the exquisite detail found in
Baroque architecture and design,’ says Domenico Dolce.
“We wanted to reflect the delicate perfection of embroidery
and the details you see in tapestries; the iconic grandeur of cherubs,
capodimonte flowers, intricate motifs and stitching,” adds Stefano Gabbana.

She carefully blended the foundation adding extra
coverage on the nose and forehead. The Concealer was then
used to achieve a flawless, ethereal look illuminated with light.

Finally Pat used The Blush in Delight, sweeping colour
lightly across models’
cheekbones for a romantic flush.

On the eyes, The Eyeshadow Quad in Golds and Desert was
applied in layers to create a luxurious, gilt rich tone.
The Eyeliner in Nude was then worked along the lash line
above and below the eyes to brighten the look and add further definition.
Finally, several layers of Secret Eyes mascara in Coffee were applied,
achieving long, volumised lashes for a flirtatious look.

Turning her attention to the lips, Pat applied
The Classic Lipstick in Petal and Mandorla, mixing the colour
together for a softly sensual lip with a subtle sheen.

The colour was applied with greater intensity at the
cupid’s bow for a pearlescent finish.

Pat chose The Nail lacquer in Nude for a final subtle accent.
The luxuriant finish of the nail colour perfectly
completed the sensuous makeup look.

Pat McGrath explained:

“It was wonderful to create a make up look for this collection;
there is a real sense of divine drama to the clothes and so
I wanted to bring that to life with the make up look.
The models look refined and flawless,
and their gilt edged lids really refer to the Designers’ lavish inspiration.”

Take a look at my other favourites from the AW12 show
we are loving the knee high lace socks and boots
the corsetry, lace, chiffon, tulle, intricate embroidery and beading
evocative of baroque paintings with the beautiful flowers
and cherubs and rich black and gold.
All immensely steeped in and inspired by classical
references but Dolce and Gabbana
have again created a modern intensely beautiful silhouette
which we adore as always.
